Zoning question for home-based business

I'd like to start a beer and wine delivery service out of my home, but am having a hard time figuring out whether or not I'll have zoning issues to contend with. I'm a home renter in Los Angeles, and I'm fairly certain my neighborhood is zoned as strictly residential.

 

But as a home-based business, where nothing is served here at my house address (it would all be delivered on-order, like a pizza) I'm confused as to what kind of ABC license I need, as well as whether or not I have a zoning problem storing the beer and wine at my house.

Call your city councils office - they could tell you - some zones are odd and can include several types of projects. I would also ask your landlord - they might not allow it - look over your contract then call your landlord.

I would check with your local buisness office. The local government doesn't allow that were I live. I was visited by the local police for my home based buisness because I filed the paperwork for the state and federal but didn't file it for the city. Zoning regulations cover numerous issues. For instance, will you store inventory or park a delivery truck at your home? Both of those things may not be allowed. If you plan to have employees at some point in the future, that may not be allowed. A call to your local planning and zoning (sometimes called planning and development) department should answer your questions. You might also check your city's web site. Then, check your lease and your homeowner's association covenants for any restrictions.
