DETROIT – The U.S. Small Business Administration is proud to announce that its signature event, National Small Business Week, will be held June 17th through June 21st. The week’s events culminate in Washington where the 2013 National Small Business Person of the Year will be announced. Candidates from all 50 states and territories will be competing for the award, including Douglas Hekman, President of Quincy Street, Inc. in Holland, MI.

Hekman was recently honored as the Michigan Small Business Person of the Year at the 9 Annual Michigan Celebrates Small Business awards event on May 2nd in Lansing. The company was selected for its double-digit sales growth in each of the last 5 years, growth in employment, and for its innovative and disciplined business practices which have allowed Quincy Street to compete with the largest U.S. meat processors.  Quincy Street Inc. was also selected for its practice of generous donations to charitable causes and community service.

This year’s National Small Business Week activities will include forums discussing the small business landscape, business coaching services, matchmaking events as well as networking opportunities and award ceremonies. In addition to the in-person events, the week will also feature daily online forums that will focus on subjects such as exporting and access to capital.  All events will be live-streamed on SBA’s website, www.sba.gov.

As part of National Small Business Week, the SBA has been recognizing the special impact made by outstanding American entrepreneurs and small business owners since 1963. “The SBA is honored to highlight the impact of the courageous men and women who work every day to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness,” said Gerald Moore, SBA Michigan District Director.
