Jim Aardappel named Deputy District Director

of the SBA Arkansas District Office

 

LITTLE ROCK – Jim Aardappel has been named deputy district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Arkansas District Office to help boost economic development across the state by ensuring the delivery of SBA’s loan programs and business development services. A U.S. Navy veteran, Aardappel comes with extensive background in exporting and work in international markets.

 

“Jim will be a great addition to the Arkansas team since one of the priorities of the Obama Administration is to increase export education and opportunities for small businesses,” said Regional Administrator Yolanda Garcia Olivarez, who heads SBA Region VI.  The Region covers Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. 

 

“Jim’s knowledge and background in the international arena is a plus for the area,” Olivarez said.  “We are also very proud that Jim is a veteran.  His service to our nation continues in his new role as he works to support and strengthen small businesses.”

 

Before accepting this position Aardappel served as the senior business specialist with BusinessUSA in the Michigan Field Office, U.S. Department of Commerce.  The BusinessUSA website helps small businesses interact with the federal government.

 

His private sector experience included leadership roles as the international sales director for Cosmovision, and export sales manager and department head for Draper Inc. Both positions oversaw all international sales.

 

Prior to that, Aardappel was with Delco Electronics / Delphi Corp. in a number of leadership roles including quality program engineering, customer support manager, and regional country manager.  He has worked as a supply chain development manager, international service program manager, reengineering team leader & IT regional manager in Asia and Latin America, as well as senior international business development manager.  Aardappel’s international business experience includes living and working in Tokyo, Japan and Melbourne, Australia.

 

Aardappel holds a bachelor of science in management from Golden Gate University and an associate’s degree in economics from Santa Barbara City College. He is currently in a global MBA program with Thunderbird School of Global Management.

 

Jim enjoys international travel and scuba diving.
