BOSTON – June Goguen, vice president of Bridgewater Savings Bank, has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2012 Massachusetts Women in Business Champion award winner, according to an announcement made by Robert H. Nelson, Massachusetts SBA District Director.

The Women in Business Advocate award is presented annually to an individual who has fulfilled a commitment to the advancement of women’s business ownership. Nominations are evaluated on the following criteria:  (1) Active support for legislative or regulatory action designed to help small business.  (2) Efforts to increase business and financial opportunities for women. (3) Legal, financial or managerial assistance provided to enhance women’s business ownership. (4) Volunteer efforts to strengthen the role of women owned businesses in the community. (5) Advocacy of the women-owned business community as a whole, not solely for individual personal advancement.  Ms. Goguen was nominated for this award by Melinda Ailes, regional director of Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Southeast Regional Office.

Ms. Goguen serves as chair for the New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce’s SouthCoast Women’s Forum – a full day of seminars and keynote speakers focused on issues important to women business owners.   Under June’s leadership the forum has become the region’s premier annual women’s business event.

“June's dedication and commitment to the needs of small businesses is truly an asset to the community.” said James C. Lively, President and CEO of Bridgewater Savings. “We are all proud of June's accomplishments and are happy to see June being recognized for her hard-work.”

“June goes above and beyond to ‘say yes’ to the deal and fund more women owned businesses,” said SBA Director Bob Nelson. “In addition to her work as a commercial lender, her volunteer efforts with the SouthCoast Women’s Forum to promote awareness of women’s business issues are truly remarkable.”

Bridgewater Savings is a full service financial institution. Please visit www.bridgewatersavings.com or call 508-884-3300 for additional information.

Ms. Goguen will be honored at an SBA awards celebration along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2012 winners at an event at Fenway Park on June 6, 2012.
