Thanks to SBA-Backed Start-Up Financing, Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center Adds More than 50 Jobs

PHILADELPHIA, PA – U.S. Small Business Administrator Karen Mills will tour Clarks Summit’s Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center, a local small business that’s rapidly expanding, on Wednesday, August 8 at 10:30 a.m.  Adm. Mills will highlight how local small businesses, like the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center, can benefit from SBA and Administration programs so they can grow and create jobs throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Two years ago, the Veterinary Emergency and Referral Center received an SBA Recovery Act loan to open the only state-of-the art veterinary tertiary care and hospital facility on the Scranton side of the Wyoming Valley.  Today, the Center employs 54 and has seen nearly 12,000 new patients.  The Center specializes in internal medicine, surgery, critical care, cardiology, and emergency veterinary medicine.

Thus far, in fiscal year 2012, SBA has approved 899 loans in eastern Pennsylvania, supporting over $330 million to eastern Pennsylvania’s small businesses.
