The West Virginia District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration holds two workshops in New Martinsville on March 13 at the West Virginia Northern Community College in room 110. Register for the events by contacting SBA’s Economic Development Specialist, Larry Batten at larry.batten@sba.gov or 304-623-7447.

The first workshop, Turning Silver into Gold, at 10:30 a.m. is targeted to those over the age of fifty looking to start a small business. There are over 76 million people over the age of 50 in the country. Statistics show that one in four Americans between the ages of 44 and 70 are interested in starting their own business or nonprofit venture in the next five to ten years. Learn how to turn your silver into gold and join the experts for a free workshop on resources available to you. Individual counseling is available.

The second workshop, the ABC’s of the SBA, at 1:00 p.m. is an overview of the programs and services offered by the SBA. Batten outlines SBA’s core operations of capital, contracting and counseling. A Q&A session is scheduled to follow the workshop.

The West Virginia Northern Community College is located 141 Main Street in New Martinsville. Participants in the workshops include Larry Batten from the West Virginia District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration, Donna Schramm from the Small Business Development Center, and the Wetzel County Chamber of Commerce.
