The regional award winner is selected from among the state winners.  In addition to Minnesota, SBA’s upper Midwest Region includes Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Three years ago the Small Business Development Center, South Central Region, was minimally performing entity; today, the “rebuilt” SBDC enjoys a stellar reputation in the Minnesota SBDC Network. This is a team that overcame funding and operational challenges to:

  • Regain the trust and respect of its banking community and partners
  • Add exceptional professionals to the Center staff and consulting team
  • Smoothly integrate with a new host institution
  • Secure significant grant funding
  • Execute innovative initiatives
  • Consistently exceed the Center’s established goals

All of these substantial achievements have been accomplished with a leadership staff of two community-minded individuals:  Michael Nolan, Director, and Julie Nelson, Program Coordinator.

With new staff and momentum, the SBDC at Minnesota State University, Mankato has become a valuable partner to our banking community.  It has earned the respect and trust of its clients and regional partners.  They have truly demonstrated a model of professionalism, leadership and excellence in a short period of time.

The Small Business Development Center (SBDC), South Central Region, will be honored at the Minnesota Small Business Week Awards program on May 6, 2013, at the Depot Minneapolis.
