Abstract:

This study analyzes the demographic characteristics of small business owners, their employees, and the benefits offered by these firms. It is based on data collected by the Bureau of the Census and reported in the March releases of the Current Population Survey for 1993 through 1997, and the 1992 release of the Census Bureau's Characteristics of Business Owners.

Purpose:

The purpose of this publication is to provide to the public basic economic data on the small business sector of the U.S. economy.
