Small Business Week Events – 2006 SBA celebrates the contribution of entrepreneurs to America’s economy each year with our National Small Business Week. From May 15 through 20, we’ll be hosting events around the Bay Area to show our appreciation for all the hard work small businesses do year round. As an introduction to the week, the Cal State East Bay Small Business Development Center will offer its 2006 East Bay Economic Summit on May 1 at the Oakland Museum. The Summit brings together small business owners, corporations, non-profit organizations, trade associations, federal, state and local agencies, and the University community for a week of events, panels, classes and workshops focused on small business growth and sustainable economic development and will have a special focus on social entrepreneurship. Click here In San Francisco, we have our annual Kick Off Event for the week in City Hall on Monday, May 15, 6:00 PM. A great opportunity for networking with other entrepreneurs, corporations and organizations. Come meet new customers and find plenty of leads. We'll also be featuring Flavors of San Francisco, with tastings from outstanding local restaurants, and a Resource Fair for you to connect with the wealth of assistance available to your business. If you're in business, this is an evening not to be missed. Click here For the newest businesses, we’re scheduling basic workshops on how to start a business on May 16. These workshops will be held in neighborhoods around San Francisco including Oceanside, the Mission, Bayview, and the LGBT Center on Market. Topics covered will include marketing, management, financing and resources. Click here Tuesday evening, May 16, we’ll co-host the Golden Gate Business Association’s monthly Make Contact networking event at the LGBT Center on Market St. GGBA is America’s oldest gay and lesbian chamber of commerce. More information about GGBA and the May 16 event is available here. Two great events on the same day, Wednesday May 17, offer something for all businesses. Our co-sponsor, Microsoft, will present a Technology Forum to introduce businesses to solutions available through the latest equipment, software, and partners. Click here The evening of May 17, the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce invites you to their Grand Expo Marketplace at the San Francisco Design Center Concourse featuring a reception with more than 100 exhibitors which will include Chamber members, caterers, wineries and local non-profits. Click here May 18, San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce the California Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Latino Business Professionals will conduct a special seminar to help improve your financial literacy in the SBA Entrepreneur Center training room, 455 Market St., 6th floor. This workshop will provide tips on how to better manage your money, improve savings and investment strategies and save on taxes. Co-sponsor Wells Fargo will offer a special seminar on Financing for Your Business in the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce Office, 235 Montgomery Street on the evening of May 18. Discover the right way to seek financing for your business. We will discuss loan proposal, financing options and programs for your company’s financial health. Click here Be sure to look for your local merchants’ association to wrap up the week with parties in their neighborhoods to salute their members. Check with your merchants’ association to see what they’re planning for Friday night, May 19. Finally, come out and shop. Area businesses will be setting up sidewalk sales all over San Francisco as part of the celebration, thanks in part to the organizational support of the San Francisco Small Business Commission.
