Message from the District Director

SBA’s Washington Metropolitan Area District Office is an advocate for small business and as such wants to ensure that the small business community is aware of SBA’s programs and services, including free management and technical assistance, contracting opportunities and financing programs.

Securing appropriate financing is the key to any business’ success. But as many new entrepreneurs quickly discover, raising capital may not be easy; in fact, it can be a complex and frustrating process. However, the more you know and understand the different types of financing, the easier it will be to raise capital for your business.

There are many types of financing programs available. Often, small businesses opt to take a consumer loan for a business purpose. These consumer loans take the form of home equity loans, personal lines of credit, or high interest credit cards. However, commercial loans are usually a better option for business financing as the type of loan that you select will have an impact on the business and personal liquidity.
