AKIMEKA, LLC

President and CEO Vaughn Vasconcellos established Akimeka, LLC in 1997 and has continued to guide this innovative Native Hawaiian-owned company to a high level of success. Through his supportive and value-driven leadership, Akimeka, LLC has developed a sound reputation as a Hawaii-based company that provides cutting-edge high-impact solutions in military medicine, security and enhanced emergency services to federal agencies and the U.S. military across the globe. 

Early in his business venture, Vasconcellos turned to the U.S. Small Business Administration for assistance. He sought out the assistance of SBA’s Small Business Development Center. There, he received helpful technical advice which helped him develop the business and identify resources to help put the company on the fastrack.

With SBA’s 8(a) Business Development and Government Contracting program, Vasconcellos mastered the skills to navigate the competitive federal procurement system and graduated with many successful projects and strong business relationships. Current projects include the development of a system to support a rapid response for medical emergencies such as pandemic outbreaks and terrorist attacks, new information technology to support military operations with enhanced medical response and care, and improved public safety communications that increase efficiency and save lives.

Headquartered on Maui, with offices in Texas, Florida and D.C., Akimeka, LLC is now a flourishing veteran-owned company that has created over 160 jobs for talented, highly-educated professionals and generates over $19 million in annual revenues. Vasconcellos was honored as the 2009 Hawaii Small Business Person of the Year and second runner up for the National title.
