Hard Hat & High Heels: Woman Excels as SBA 8(a) Contractor

As a woman and minority owned company in the highly competitive area of government contractors in general construction, Stephanie Biven has chosen to distinguish her company, Biven’s Electric, Inc. (BEI) dba West Coast Construction, as the electrical contractor that provides the trust, reliability, and dependability that creates continued demand for your services.

Started in 1997 with Rodney Biven, this exceptional husband and wife management team has proven themselves as a perfect combination of experience in the electrical industry and strong business and marketing savvy to get their firm on the fast track to success.  BEI is certified by the SBA 8(a) Business Development program which offers special contracting opportunities, mentoring partnerships, and training. The company has used this certification to strengthen their skills and financial capacity while establishing a strong reputation for customer service and a commitment to excellence.

Although BEI may be considered a fairly new company in comparison to many of its peers, the company has expanded and gained the necessary experience to become a leader in their industry.  In the last eight years, the company has grown from two to forty full time employees.  Biven treats staff as an extension of family and invests in their team through training and development, an attractive 401K, and generous bonuses based on performance.  Since 2003, this fast growing company has reported an increase in revenues of almost 250%.

Through the SBA, BEI participates in mentoring of younger contractors though they may be training future competitors.  Despite the demands of her successful company, Biven finds time to participate with the 4-H Club, Associated Builders and Contractors Association, AYSO, and Aloha United Way.
