U.S. Small Business Administration

James A. Kocsi is the district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration's (SBA) New Jersey district office located in Newark, NJ.  Under his leadership, the New Jersey district office has consistently provided record levels of support to the small business community.  In Fiscal Year 2007, the office approved 3,557 loans for $585 million to New Jersey small business owners.  This level of loan activity ranks the New Jersey district office 5th nationally among SBA’s 68 district offices.

Mr. Kocsi is responsible for directing SBA’s efforts to assist the 711,000 small businesses in New Jersey with the agency’s financial and business development programs.  Additionally, he has oversight responsibilities for eleven Small Business Development Centers administered by Rutgers University, two SBA funded Women’s Business Centers and nine chapters of SCORE – Counselors to America’s Small Business, a volunteer organization that provides free business counseling.

Jim started his SBA career in 1976 as a loan officer for the New Jersey district office.  In 1983, he moved to SBA’s government contracting programs and in 1991 became the Assistant Regional Administrator for Procurement Assistance.  From 1993 to 1995, he served as the Area Director for SBA’s government contracting programs for the Northeastern United States.  In 1995, he returned to the New Jersey district office as the deputy district director and was appointed to his current position in January 2003.

Mr. Kocsi is a graduate of the University of Scranton with a B.S. degree in business management and has completed numerous courses in financial management and federal contracting.  He is a member of the Federal Executive Board of Northern New Jersey, the Federal Mangers Association and the Reserve Officers Association.  A life long resident of New Jersey and a retired U.S. Army Reserve officer, Jim and his wife, Sue Ann, reside in Woodbridge Township.
