Branch Manager - Corpus Christi Branch Office
Simon H. Castillo was appointed the Branch Manager of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Corpus Christi Branch Office in January 2005. He came to the SBA from the public sector where he worked as a General Business Advisor and also had varied government service. He manages the branch office which covers the South Texas counties of Aransas, Brooks, Duval, Kleberg, Nueces, San Patricio and Jim Wells. The branch office's dedicated team greatly contributes to SBA's Lower Rio Grande Valley District Office goals.
Castillo has over 20 years of experience working with small enterprises. His initial small business experience started in 1970 with the National Economic Development Association (NEDA), a nonprofit organization that assisted small minority enterprises to enter into our country’s economic mainstream. He counseled entrepreneurs to start or expand their enterprises, analyzed their business and financial data, prepared financial and/or contracting proposals, represented businesses with lender partners, conducted marketing and outreach activities, managed personnel and resources, among other duties.
Along his small business career path, Castillo partnered with a multitude of public and private sector entities, which included financial institutions, chambers of commerce, economic/business development organizations, community entities, schools, and local/state/federal agencies and officials.
He worked closely with the SBA in San Antonio, TX, to help individuals start and/or expand their small enterprises. Because of this proactive SBA/NEDA partnership, the agency sponsored Castillo to attend the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking (SWGSB) in Dallas, TX.
Castillo’s prior Federal government service includes working for the U.S. Bureau of the Census; the U.S. Department of Commerce - Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA); the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He served in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army Reserves. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public and Institutional Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio.
Mr. Castillo has two sons, one works for the private sector in New York City and the other one is in medical school. An avid reader of current events, he likes sports, participates in church activities, and is a very passionate advocate for small business.
