LA 13271-14 SBA to Continue Operations at Disaster Loan Outreach Center in LaPlace

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Michael W. Ricks, District Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) Louisiana District office, announced today that SBA will continue to keep open the Disaster Loan Outreach Center in LaPlace.  SBA will close its five other remaining Disaster Loan Outreach Centers at the close of business on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, as announced earlier.

“SBA opened these centers to provide personalized assistance to Louisiana residents and business owners who were affected by Hurricane Isaac.  Due to the continuing large number of visitors to the LaPlace center, SBA will remain at this location until further notice to meet the continuing needs of the community.  The center is located at 2015 West Airline Highway and is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm Mondays through Fridays. Until each of the centers close, SBA customer service representatives will continue to be available to meet with residents and business owners to answer their questions and close their approved disaster loans,” said Ricks.

“To date, more than 30,700 visitors have received personal service from SBA at 40 Disaster Recovery Centers, 11 SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers and 10 SBA Business Recovery Centers,” he continued.  Residents and business owners can meet with SBA representatives on the days and times indicated.  No appointment is necessary.

“SBA’s low-interest, Federal disaster loans are available to homeowners, renters, businesses of all sizes and private, non profit organizations to repair or replace their property damaged or destroyed by the disaster.  So far, SBA has approved more than $144.5 million in low interest disaster loans to individuals and businesses.  SBA has approved 4,242 loans to Louisiana homeowners and renters for $128 million and 404 loans to businesses for $16.5 million,” Ricks said.

“Even though the deadline to apply for property damage loans expired on November 29, SBA is still offering Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to small businesses and most private, nonprofit organizations of any size to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster.  EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the business or nonprofit organization suffered any property damage.  These EIDL loans have an interest rate of 4% for businesses and 3% for private, nonprofit organizations, a maximum term of 30 years, and are available to small businesses and most private, nonprofits without the financial ability to offset the adverse impact without hardship,” Ricks said.  The deadline to apply for EIDLs is May 29, 2013.

Applicants may apply online using the Electronic Loan Application (ELA) via SBA’s secure Web site at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela
