This small business is certified in the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 8(a) business development program. The 8(a) program provides management and technical assistance to participating firms as well as access to government contracting opportunities. This firm has met with remarkable success through this program.
“Alpha Energy and Electric’s growth as a small business have encountered challenges of lack of access to working capital, difficulty in obtaining adequate bonding capacity, access to relevant training and access to compete for government contracts. In the past two years, with the assistance of the U.S. Small Business Administration, we have been working to overcome these challenges,” said Gabriel Okafor. “Our company has participated in all of our district’s 7j training programs including Construction Contracting, Proposal Preparation and Marketing Your Small Business to the Federal Government.”
“Through the SBA bonding program, Alpha Energy and Electric has increased its bonding capacity to $5M for individual projects and $10M for aggregate projects. Our local SBA district, through our business development officer-Ms. Barbara Caldwell and Kathy Devoe, have been of tremendous assistance to us in exploring the 8(a) program. Ms. Caldwell was directly instrumental in securing a maintenance contract at Whiteman Air Force Base for our company. Ms. Kathy Devoe (retired) assisted in training us on how to negotiate our first government contract with USDA. To date we have complete two federal contracts with U.S. General Services Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We continue to perform excellently well on our maintenance contract at the Whiteman Air Force Base.”
“Overall our experience with the SBA has been positive. These experiences have had significant impact in growing our company and helping us create new jobs. We are immensely grateful to Pat Brown-Dixon, the Regional Administrator for Region VII and her capable staff for all their efforts to encourage and grow small businesses in this region.”
