Marylyn Harris is the President and CEO of Harrland Healthcare Consulting, LLC, A Healthcare Management Consulting Firm and Distributor headquartered in Houston, Texas. Harrland provides customized staff, training, and research solutions to individuals, corporations, not-for-profits, military and government entities domestically and abroad. Clients of Harrland Healthcare include, VA Hospitals, U.S. Department of Army, U.S. Department of Air Force, local universities and non-profit organizations. Marylyn started Harrland Consulting in 2007. Harrland is a certified service-disabled veteran owned business, Texas Historically Underutilized Business (TX-HUB) and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE). Trained as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Marylyn holds advanced degrees in Nursing (MSN) and Business Administration (MBA) and post graduate studies in Healthcare Informatics Technology (HIT).
Marylyn is a long-time advocate for veterans. She served in the U.S. Army for 11 years and during the Gulf War in support of Operation Desert Storm. Marylyn is the Executive Director of the Veterans Information and Resource Project (The VIP Project), a Texas-based non-profit organization that educates veterans about benefits and entitlements. The VIP Project launched a new initiative in 2010, the Womens Veterans Business Center (WVBC). The Womens Veterans Business Center has a mission to educate and empower women veterans and military families to start and grown veteran-owned businesses. The organization presently has over 200 members. WVBC services include, outreach/networking events, business training/bootcamps and low cost business consulting services. The Women Veterans Business Center recruited over 60 women veteran entrepreneurs to attend the Inaugural Veteran-Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship (V-WISE) Conference in May 2011. The WVBC was contracted to provide their Resource Guides"25 FREE Resources Every Texas Woman Veteran Needs to Know," to every woman veteran entrepreneur at the conference. The WVBC hosted its Anniversary Scholarship Event on Saturday, November 19, 2011 in Houston.
Marylyn is a healthcare professional and committed volunteer in and around the Houston community. She is a member of the Texas Nurses Association, the Black MBA Association and Texas Business Alliance. Marylyn is a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and volunteers with the USO, the National Military Family Association and within the Windsor Village Church Veterans Ministry. She is a graduate of the Florida State University School of Business Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans, the Veteran-Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship Conference and the National Center for Veterans in Procurement.
In 2010, Marylyn was the recipient of several prestigious awards to include, the Legion of Honor Award by the Four Chaplains Foundation, "For selfless community service," the Silver Medal by the Good Samaritan Foundation for "Nursing Excellence" and the Top 25 Women of Houston Award by Rolling Out Magazine. Marylyn has received Congressional Recognition for her work as a veteran contractor and for her veterans' advocacy and in 2010 was the Featured Veteran on the EBV Foundation website. Marylyn is a sought after speaker and lecturer on veterans benefits, military mental health and on issues concerning women veteran entrepreneurship. In 2010, Marylyn was appointed to serve on the SBA National Advisory Committee on Veterans Business Affairs and currently serves as the Committee Vice-Chairman.
