In 1968, Joan Wenk was faced with a life changing dilemma. Her husband was facing a medical disability and she had 3 children under the age of 4. Disheartened by the lack of affordable child care, Joan started her own child care business.
Forty-three years later, Creative Playrooms Montessori Schools & Child Care Centers serves approximately 2000 children at 8 locations in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
The company received its first SBA-guaranteed loan in 1971, when the company had only 2 employees. The company received two additional SBA-backed loans in 1983 and 1995, and today employs 260 people.
Creative Playgrounds has grown into the largest privately owned child care corporation in Ohio and the fourteenth largest in the nation. The company generates over $1 million in annual revenue.
