Executive Vice President, American Society of Appraisers (ASA) 1996 to present. ASA is the only US multi-discipline professional appraiser society. Its 6000 individual members value real property (buildings and land), personal property (fine arts, antiques, gems and jewelry and machinery and equipment) and intangibles (businesses, copyrights etc.). ASA provides appraisal education in all disciplines, offers professional designations to qualified members, and works within the society and with the Appraisal Foundation to establish appraisal standards and appraiser qualifications for the profession. Additionally the society has as many as four major meetings of conferences annually. Headquartered in Northern Virginia, ASA has an annual budget of $3.5 million, a staff of approximately 30 professionals in membership, education, meeting planning, publications, information systems and administration. ASA publishes a monthly newsletter and many additional information pieces.
Executive Director, Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC), 1990 to 1996. Managed a staff ranging from seven to nine full time employees and had an annual budget of $1.5 million. Responsible for: monitoring the state appraiser regulatory agencies; monitoring the appraisal requirements of the federal financial institutions regulatory agencies; monitoring the practices, procedures and activities of the Appraisal Foundation, including providing Grants to help defray the costs of the Appraisal Standards Board and the Appraiser Qualifications Board; and maintaining the National Registry of certified and licensed appraisers. Positions of increasing responsibility culminating in the position of Vice President for Planning and Design, the Rouse Company, Columbia MD, 1965 to 1974.Responsible for physical plan of Columbia, a new town that now has a population of about 100,000 people.
