The STEP program will coordinate with the Alabama International Trade Division (ITD) to educate Alabama small businesses on the markets of China/Korea, Singapore/Malaysia and France. During FY 2013, the ITD will lead trade missions comprised of small businesses to these countries utilizing the Gold Key Services of the U.S. Commercial Service. To help small businesses find success in exporting, customized training programs will be delivered on-site to prepare them in export readiness and provide in-depth technical assistance on export financing. Companies in rural Alabama and those that are minority owned will be targeted to receive assistance. To assist other qualified small businesses find new overseas markets, the ITD will assist in setting up pre-qualified appointments with potential buyers and help them participate in certified trade shows. Three innovative product clusters of small companies in the medical, safety/security and aerospace industries will also be developed in tandem with these aforementioned activities.
