Cornell's Country Store
If you're going to dream, dream big. Armed with an entrepreneur spirit and the help of the SBA, we were able to go from this to this. Cornell Feed started in 1999 and grew rapidly and it was only with the help of SBA that we evolved into Cornell's Country Store providing this small community with a place to shop for everything from feed to footwear. With this expansion, we were able to employee at least three full-time employees and one college student each fall in a town where jobs are few and far between. It is very rewarding to walk through the front doors everyday and remember where you came from and dream of where you can go. The SBA also helped our business when we had to shift our focus to more retail and less livestock feed when the worst drought in Texas history hit our wonderful state, which caused local ranchers to sell their livestock. The impact of that disaster hit us hard so we applied for and received disaster funds to enable us to shift focus to more retail goods to make up for the drastic loss in feed sells. We still have our entrepreneur spirit intact and are still dreaming big. Thank you SBA. The mom and pop shop is not dead...
