Louisiana's far from being typical from its plantation homes to its fishing camps and from the French quarter to the heart of the Big Easy there is nothing ordinary about Louisiana. Faith, family, football, and of course food, form the core of our unique culture and heritage. Our people are hardworking, big hearted, fun-loving, and passionate but most of all we are resilient. Whether facing a man-made or natural disaster we along with the help from the SBA will recover bigger, better, and stronger than before after all we see every challenge as an opportunity to grow. Thus it is fitting that a person like Edward Lepre who personifies the resilient, hardworking spirit of the people of our state is Louisiana's 2012 SBA small business person of the year. Like Louisiana, Ed is not typical or ordinary.

His journey to success did not take the traditional path; instead he forged his own trail. Ed began his career in 1984 as a deputy and eventually became a certified dog handler for the Jefferson Parish Sherriff's Department. In 1990 he was honored as deputy of the year. Seven years later Ed and his wife Laura formed International Drug Detection and soon moved IDD to its original building at 200 Hickory Avenue in Harahan. In 2008, ID moved to a current state of the art building. Now celebrating its 15th anniversary IDD is one of the fastest growing third party administrators and drug detection facilities in the south. Through its technicians, network of facilities, and K-9 search team IDD offers clients drug detection services anywhere in America. From coast to coast and in Alaska, Hawaii, and offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico with hard work, dedication, and his passion to serve Ed has taken the uncommon approach in creating an extraordinary success story with the help of organizations such as the SBA Ed Lepre and his team continue to create a safe drug-free environment for our families, children, and workers. Ed combines a strength of integrity with the power of innovation.
