Hi. I'm Donna Choi. I own Serifos, an eclectic gift boutique in the Silver Lake suburb of Los Angeles. When I opened my business 10 years ago, the SBA was helpful in so many ways. At the time, I was working in radio in sales and marketing, but what I really wanted to do was work for myself. My first stop was the Small Business Administration in Glendale, California. The SBA taught me so many things like how to write a business plan, about licenses and permits, and how to find funding. I was also able to meet with a retired executive through the SCORE Program who gave me personalized one-on-one advice about the business that I wanted to open. I attended seminars that taught me about book keeping, inventory, marketing, advertising'everything I needed to know about my business. Thanks to my SBA education, I was able to open my gift boutique and hit the ground running. Thanks to the ARC loan that I got through the SBA, I was able to keep my business open and continue to grow. Today I am an award-winning jewelry designer and I just celebrated 10 years in business.
