TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT helping pass along savings and investments

WASHINGTON, DCLinda McMahon, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration and voice of small businesses, will visit Massachusetts as part of her nationwide SBA Ignite Tour focused on listening to business owners; educating about SBA's services for access to capital, mentoring and federal contracting; advocating for entrepreneurs and driving economic growth with small businesses.

WHY:              Small businesses are the engine of America's economy and in Massachusetts, 99.5% percent of the businesses are small and employ more than 46.8% percent of the Massachusetts workforce.  (SBA Office of Advocacy Massachusetts State Profile)

Passage of recent TAX CUTS AND JOBS ACT has also allowed Massachusetts businesses to pass along savings and investments to customers and employees, including:

  • Eversource Energy Eastern Massachusetts service territory will see a reduction in taxes of $47.6 million. This will cause a rate reduction of approximately $35.4 million, rather than the approved increase of $12.2 million.  (1/4 News Release)
  • Berkshire Hills Bancorp the parent of Berkshire Bank announced additional investments in its employees and communities, including: raising minimum wage to $15 per hour; special one-time bonuses of $1,000 to over 1,000 employees; contribution of $2 million to the Berkshire Bank Charitable Foundation.  (1/4 News Release)
