Fargo, ND – Alan Haut has been selected to serve as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) district director for the state of North Dakota. As SBA’s top leader in North Dakota, Haut will facilitate the delivery of SBA programs and services to benefit the state’s small business community, including access to capital, counseling, training, and government contracting.

Haut said, “I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to serve the state’s small businesses as the director for SBA in North Dakota.  We have a great team of professionals, and I look forward to leading them as we assist the over 73,000 small business in North Dakota.”

He will oversee SBA staff in Fargo, Grand Forks and Bismarck and SBA grant-funded counseling and training partners in the state including: the Small Business Development Center, the Women’s Business Center, and SCORE mentors.

Haut’s career started with the SBA as an unpaid student intern. Throughout his 28-year career with SBA, he has held numerous positions including economic development specialist, loan officer, lender relations specialist, deputy district director, and since January acting district director upon the retirement of Michael Gallagher. His expertise in working with lenders earned him the opportunity to chair a national committee on productivity analysis, help rewrite position descriptions for lender relations specialists across the country, and serve as a trainer for SBA lender relations staff.

Haut, a Jamestown, N.D., native, earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master in Business Administration from Minnesota State University, Moorhead. His small business roots date back to the early 1900s when his great grandfather started a hardware store in central North Dakota. That business eventually lead to a funeral business that remains in the family today.

Haut’s family includes his wife Missy, son Adam, and three dogs. As an outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys spending time with family and friends hunting, fishing and being in the great outdoors.
