BOSTON – The Small Business Administration (SBA) has named The Greater Boston SCORE Chapter 20 as the National SCORE Chapter of the Year for 2017.

“Every day, the amazing volunteers from the Boston SCORE chapter provide mentoring and counseling to entrepreneurs striving to achieve the American Dream," said SBA Massachusetts District Director Robert H. Nelson. "As a national awardee and given the number of SCORE chapters there are across the US, this is truly significant.  We’re excited about the well-deserved recognition and the acknowledgement of the work Boston SCORE does to grow communities and jobs here in greater Boston.”

Boston’s dynamic small business ecosystem is a hub for entrepreneurs from a variety of different industries to thrive and grow.  SCORE Boston has worked tirelessly through the years to adapt to emerging sectors and address the needs of small businesses in need of support in our region.   SCORE Boston has developed top-notch mentors/counselors and continually concentrates on improving its diversity to effectively communicate across generations. Increasingly, other organizations have sought partnerships with the chapter for workshops, mentoring, and innovative support models for startups and small businesses.

The chapter is co-chaired by Laura Colcord.  Laura joined the chapter in 2015, bringing 35 years of business experience. Laura has re-invigorated Boston’s workshop program, tripling the number of workshops offered and increasing the number of attendees by more than 400%. Howard Fineman served as Co-Chair of the chapter in fiscal year 2015-2016, joining SCORE in 2009. Howard has a wealth of experience and is a SCORE-certified business mentor and current business owner. Boston SCORE continues to build on its legacy of excellent chapter leadership and superior client service.

The Boston SCORE Chapter will be honored at a ceremony during National Small Business Week in Washington D.C. on April 30th and during the Massachusetts award luncheon in Quincy on May 2nd to be held at Granite Links Golf Club.

The SCORE national office announces the winner, and is determined by peer judges.
