MINNEAPOLIS – The U.S. Small Business Administration has named Brandon Poliszuk, founder of Social Butterfly, the 2019 Young Entrepreneur of the Year. He will be honored at the state’s Small Business Week Awards Luncheon on May 10 at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park, Minn.

“Succeeding in small business at any age is an accomplishment to be recognized” said Nancy Libersky, district director for the SBA in Minnesota. “It’s exciting to be able to honor young entrepreneurs like Brandon and know they are thriving thanks to some extra help from SBA resource partners.”

Brandon Poliszuk started Social Butterfly when he was 19 years old after exploring the idea during a class project at the Minnesota State University, Mankato.  In just over three years the company has evolved into a full-service creative agency. It is best known for videography, photography and social media advertising. The company’s goal is to help businesses owners bridge the gap between asking themselves "what do I want to tell my audience" vs "what does my audience want to see?"

Social Butterfly was nominated by the Small Business Development Center, Mankato (SBDC), which provided start-up assistance to the company and continues to be a resource as they scale. Of Poliszuk, Julie Nelson, Associate Regional Director for the SBDC had this to say, “Brandon’s passion, energy, creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and canny ability to stay one step ahead in a constantly evolving industry have fueled his young company to success in a short time – while earning increasing state and national attention.”

Social Butterfly currently employs five people and has also grown into the Twin Cities and Rochester market, working with large, "up and coming" brands that have national partnerships, as well as in Rochester, Minn. It has also been contracted out by one of the biggest agencies in NYC - Vayner Media which led to working with 7 NFL athletes over SuperBowl Weekend as well as Gary Vaynerchuck himself.

Poliszuk works with several nonprofits that Social Butterfly believes in to give in-kind donations.  He has volunteered with causes including Feed My Starving Children, ECHO FoodShelf, Mankato Area Foundation, Rochester Community and Technical College Foundation.

The SBA Minnesota District Office, along with the SCORE Association and the Minnesota State Small Business Development Center, will honor all the 2019 Minnesota-based winners at the Minnesota Small Business Week Awards Luncheon on May 10, 2019, at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park, Minn. Registration is open for the event until May 7 at http://tinyurl.com/y6n8sxsk.

National Small Business Week is dedicated to honoring small business owners and their champions across the nation. It has been celebrated annually and proclaimed by each President for more than 50 years. Along with recognizing the hard working and deserving small business owners, the SBA also recognizes the lenders, resource partners, and spouses and families who provide support for small businesses.
