BOSTON – Trademark Tours of Cambridge has been named the winner of the 2013 Massachusetts Small Business Exporter of the Year award according to an announcement by Robert Nelson, Massachusetts SBA District Director.

The Small Business Exporter of the Year award is presented annually to an outstanding exporter that has received SBA assistance and has a successful three-year track record. Trademark Tours was judged on four basic criteria: growth in net worth, sales and number of employees over the last three years, response to adversity, contributions to the community, and demonstrated creativity and/or commitment to a social mission in hiring policy, buying local, etc. The local tourism company was nominated for this award by Carolyn Goff, Vice President at Eastern Bank.

Trademark Tours was founded by Daniel Andrew in 2006, when he was an undergraduate student at Harvard University. Mr. Andrew noticed that few independent tour operators were giving tours of Harvard and that these tours were not up to standard. So, he started a tour company that gave tours of Harvard, MIT, and the Freedom Trail in Boston. As his company grew, Mr. Andrew saw an opportunity for marketing his tours in China, Australia and Europe. The use of indirect exporting has created new revenue for a company that is constantly looking for new ways to grow.

“Trademark Tours may seem like an unusual choice for an exporter award, but the company’s innovative approach and successful expansion into markets in China, Australia, and Europe cannot be overlooked” said Nelson. “This company is a part of the creative movement and entrepreneurial spirit that make the state of Massachusetts truly unique, and we at SBA are delighted to recognize their achievements.”

Trademark Tours and owner Daniel Andrew will be honored at an SBA awards celebration along with the other 2013 Massachusetts Small Business Week winners in June.
