BOSTON – Nobis Engineering Inc. of Concord has been named the 2014 8(a) Graduate of the Year for Massachusetts and the New England region according to an announcement made today by Massachusetts SBA District Director Robert Nelson. The company has offices in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, and Maryland.

The 8(a) Graduate of the Year award is presented annually to an outstanding business that has graduated from the SBA’s 8(a) business development program for government contracting, and has a proven track record of business success. Nobis Engineering was judged on four basic criteria: uniqueness of the firm and originality of entrepreneurship, response to adversity, participation in community projects, and demonstrated commitment to a social mission in hiring policy.

Nobis Engineering was founded in 1988 by Nannu Nobis, PE, LSP, to address a need for providing high-value integrated engineering and consulting services with a personal commitment to each client. Over the years, the Nobis team’s success in meeting client goals and building solid relationships in the local communities has enabled the firm to grow in size, service areas, and project capabilities. Today, Nobis is comprised of more than 110 professionals, with offices across New England.

“Nobis Engineering is clearly a successful example of a business that used sole source contracting through its 8(a) status to grow and prosper,” said Nelson. “I hope that this company can serve as a model and inspire other small businesses in the region to consider the 8(a) business development program.”

Nobis Engineering will be honored at an SBA awards breakfast at Lombardo’s on May 13, 2014.
