BOSTON – The Small Business Administration (SBA) has named Ready 2 Run Graphics & Signs the 2020 Veteran Small Business Owner of the Year for Massachusetts.

Ready 2 Run earned the recognition for successfully growing as a government contractor with designations as a SDVOSB (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business) and DBE (Disadvantaged Business Enterprise).   The Worcester-based firm is owned by Dan and Dave Winchester, who have established themselves as the local sign and graphics experts in central Massachusetts.

It’s an honor to recognize Dave Winchester for his service to our country and for building a successful service business, said SBA Massachusetts District Director Robert Nelson.  “Ready 2 Run has taken advantage of the full spectrum of SBA programs and services to build a solid foundation, and the Winchester brothers have demonstrated resiliency during these uncertain times to keep thriving.

Dave utilized SCORE and MSBDC counseling to prepare for the business launch while getting ready to retire from the Navy.  Worcester SCORE mentors Pete Allen and Scott Rossiter, helped him flesh out the business plan with one-on-one meetings throughout the course of a year.

As a Veteran, Dave participated in the SBA’s Boots 2 Business program at Pease Air Force base in New Hampshire – attending the program one day a week for eight weeks, where he gained foundational knowledge as a new entrepreneur and learned about specific programs for Veterans.

After getting the business plan finished, Ready 2 Run was approved for a SBA Patriot Express loan (now Veterans Advantage) with Unibank – allowing them to build out their 240 Barber Avenue location in Worcester, buy new equipment and support working capital needs.

Growing a business over the last several years has been a very rewarding experience,” said Founder, Dave Winchester.  “I am very thankful to the SBA for the assistance it has provided and the resources it supports.  These were instrumental to our success especially given the current pandemic.

Ready 2 Run has worked with clients such as: Veterans Administration, Navy, Air Force, hospitals, colleges, and universities throughout the region. Dave works with local architects and interior designers to help clients tell their brand story through experiential graphics – an area of focus for the business development where they intend to expand upon.

Dave Winchester was nominated by Sandra Ledbetter, MSBDC Government Sales Advisor.

Dave Winchester will be honored virtually at the annual SBA Massachusetts Small Business Week Awards event on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020.  Rescheduled from May, National Small Business Week will be a 3-day virtual conference from Tuesday, September 22nd to Thursday, September 24th.
