SYRACUSE, N.Y. – One local small business was recognized during National Small Business Week at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 19th Annual Small Business Excellence Awards luncheon in Syracuse on Friday, May 5th. Small businesses are selected for the Excellence Awards based on their company’s longevity, innovation, sales growth, increased employment, ability to overcome adversity or community contributions.

NY Small Business Development Center Watertown honored Buckingham Hardware/Bucks & Bolts based in Croghan with a 2017 Small Business Excellence Award. Buckingham Hardware is a hardware store in Croghan, NY owned by Todd Buckingham serving both Lewis and Jefferson Counties. Open seven days a week, the store also offers outdoor supplies for hunting, camping, fishing and hiking. With more than 22 years of ownership Todd has grown it to a multimillion dollar company that employs 14 people. In 2013, Todd used SBA-backed 504 and 7a loans to open a new location, Bucks & Bolts, in Blossvale, NY (near the eastern shore of Oneida Lake) which offers a similar line of products and is managed by his cousin, Jacob Buckingham.

“The 19th Annual Small Business Excellence Awards luncheon gives us the opportunity to celebrate our business community leaders for their small business successes,” said Bernard J. Paprocki, SBA Syracuse district director. “Entrepreneurs find success not by avoiding failure but by dreaming the impossible and taking chances. From Main Street stores to cyber merchants and all the companies in between, small businesses keep our economy innovative and vibrant.”
