BOSTON - On Friday, November 21, 2014 the U.S. Small Business Administration honored 13 participating companies in its E200/Emerging Leaders Initiative program at a graduation ceremony at the Tip O’Neill Federal Building in Boston, Massachusetts before an audience of nearly 200 people.

Tameka Montgomery, SBA Associate Administrator for Entrepreneurial Development provided remarks and Jose de la Rosa of Guardian Healthcare was selected as the class speaker.

The SBA E200/Emerging Leaders Initiative is a federal training program that provides executives of businesses poised for growth with the tools they need to build sustainable businesses and promote economic development.  The program started 7 years ago in 10 cities and has since expanded to 27 cities nationwide. Training is provided free of charge, but participants must commit to attend all sessions and to do the required out-of-class work. Recruitment for the 2015 class will begin in early spring next year.

Robert H. Nelson, SBA Massachusetts District Director, stated, “This program is very popular in the small business community here in Boston and this year’s participants were truly exceptional. This ‘mini-MBA’ program compressed into just  seven months allows graduates of the program to come out with a strong growth plan for their business as well as life-long business contacts, mentors, and friends.”

Co-sponsors for the Emerging Leaders/E200 Program include the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council, the Hispanic Chamber Institute, Eastern Bank, Radius Bank, Boston Private Bank, and Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation plus the Small Business Development Centers network, Center for Women and Enterprise, SCORE, the City of Boston, and the State Office of Supplier Diversity.
