Women’s Business Center of Excellence of the Year for Minnesota and Great Lakes Region

WomenVenture, Minneapolis

WomenVenture’s Women’s Business Center was chosen as the state and regional winner for its excellence and innovation in training and counseling culturally and economically diverse women entrepreneurs and serving as a community champion for women-owned small businesses.

“We are honored to be recognized, but really the women entrepreneurs who come to us are the true heroes,” said Elaine Wyatt, WomenVenture’s Chief Executive Officer.  “All the research shows that when women get help with their business in the early stages, the company is more successful. It is gratifying to see this theory play out again and again with our clients. Helping visionary, determined women gain business knowledge and find funding - this is work we love to do.”

WomenVenture’s WBC uses SBA programs to help women attain economic self-sufficiency by creating and growing profitable and sustainable businesses. During the past financial year, 58% of its clients identified as low-income, and 40% were from diverse cultural backgrounds. The organization helped 1,066 women access nearly $770,000 in financing – helping over 200 business starts or expand and creating or retaining over 900 jobs.
