National Small Business Week Awards to be Presented Friday

WASHINGTON – Administrator Maria Contreras-Sweet, the head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and a member of President Obama’s cabinet, will be joined Friday afternoon by entrepreneur, fashion designer and philanthropist Rachel Roy, Treasury Deputy Secretary, Sarah Bloom Raskin; DC Mayor, Muriel Bowser; Director of the National Economic Council and Assistant to the President for Economic Policy, Jeff Zients and Kauffman Foundation Acting President and CEO Wendy Guillies, at this year’s National Small Business Week awards ceremony to be held in the White House South Court Auditorium.

The purpose of this award ceremony is to recognize top small businesses, individuals, organizations and leaders from across the country who won a competitive nomination and selection process to be recognized as national winners in categories ranging from Exporter of the Year to Small Business Investment Company of the Year.

Rachel Roy will keynote as special guest in a Q&A on entrepreneurialism and Administrator Contreras-Sweet will announce a National Small Business Person of the Year from a pool of six finalists. Winners represent a diverse range of sectors, geographies, demographics and represent the major role that small businesses and entrepreneurs contribute to the growing economy.
