PORTLAND, Ore.  – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) 2019 Portland District Nano Business of the Year is Whole Body Health Physical Therapy in Portland, Oregon.

Founded in 2014, Whole Body Health Physical Therapy is an outpatient private practice physical therapy clinic that treats simple strains and sprains, post-operative surgical repairs, and chronic pain management. What was started in a 948 square foot facility has now grown to five locations.  The clinic has locations in  northeast and northwest Portland, the Pearl District, Vernonia and Tigard.

“The spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship in our small business community is part of what makes life in the Pacific Northwest so special,” SBA Portland District Director Martin Golden said. “Whole Body Health Physical Therapy represents the thousands of small businesses dedicated to building a better life for their families, employees and communities.”

The SBA Portland District Nano Business of the Year – part of National Small Business Week May 5-11, 2019 – honors a business with five or less employees operating for at least one year that is growing rapidly and poised for even more significant growth in the future.

"Our success could not have been achieved if it wasn’t for the support and consulting we received from SCORE," said Whole Body Health Physical Therapy CEO Bryan Lang. "Being owners who never considered ourselves “business people,” it’s been amazing to have a network we can rely on for answering all of our questions and create strategies for achieving growth."

When Whole Body Health Physical Therapy first opened its doors in 2014, the owners didn’t realize how fast the company would grow or how they would need to scale it.

They turned to the local Portland SCORE chapter for counseling assistance.  Through a series of monthly meetings, a SCORE mentor was able to develop an action plan to establish short and long-term goals as well as help them understand local data to improve marketing his services. Today, the clinic‘s sales have more than doubled since its founding and has gone from four to 13 employees.

"National Small Business Week is a time to recognize the impact of small businesses, which make up 99 percent of all businesses in the Pacific Northwest and create two out of every three net new jobs,” SBA Regional Administrator Jeremy Field said. “Small business owners represent our country’s best. They are innovators, job creators and community leaders. Shining a spotlight on their inspirational stories and journeys is an honor.”

A celebration honoring local SBA winners from Oregon and the SBA Portland District – which serves Oregon and southwest Washington – will be May 2. Other SBA local awards that will be recognized at the celebration include Small Business Person of the Year, 8(a) Graduate of the Year, Family-Owned Small Business of the Year, Small Business Champion, Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Excellence Award, and the Small Business Lending All-Star awards.

Each year since 1963, the President has issued a proclamation calling for the celebration of National Small Business Week. SBA recognizes outstanding small business owners for their personal successes and contributions to our nation.
