BOSTON – The Small Business Administration (SBA) has named Ruth Agbaji of Code Wiz the 2020 Woman Small Business Owner of the Year for Massachusetts.

Agbaji earned the recognition for consistent revenue growth and creating nationwide franchise business opportunities.  Code Wiz is an after-school learning franchisor designed to inspire next generation coders, teaching kids how to build video games, design websites, robotics, and other tech-themed learning.

“It is an honor to recognize Ruth Agbaji who came to America as a student from Nigeria to study and start a family.said SBA Massachusetts District Director Robert Nelson.  “Her story is truly inspirational, and her business inspires children to learn STEM in fun ways.  I look forward to hearing more about national franchise expansion in the future.  Congratulations!

Initially, Agbaji was intending to buy a franchise like Code Wiz – but after meeting with Paula Camara of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center, she was encouraged to become a franchisor instead.  Today, Code Wiz is well-positioned for future franchise expansion, with investments in the legal and sales support side of the business to continue developing as a franchisor.

It’s such an honor to be named Woman Small Business Owner of the Year!said Founder, Ruth Agbaji.  “The American dream is alive and well and I am grateful to the SBA and for providing programs and support to help people like me reach their full potential and live out their dreams!

Since opening Code Wiz, Agbaji has provided over $10,000 in scholarships to students who show promise but cannot afford the pay program fees.  Agbaji also supports communities by donating classes and camps to local Parent Teacher Organizations and fundraising efforts to support families in need.

Code Wiz was nominated by Kerry Bowie, Managing Partner at Msaada Partners, LLC.

Agbaji will be honored virtually at the annual SBA Massachusetts Small Business Week Awards event on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2020.  Rescheduled from May, National Small Business Week will be a 3-day virtual conference from Tuesday, September 22nd to Thursday, September 24th.
