San Francisco District Office names Marlow Schindler Public Information Officer

Returned Peace Corps Volunteer Steps into Local Communications Role

SAN FRANCISCO – The U. S. Small Business Administration's San Francisco District Office has named Marlow Schindler as its Public Information Officer. In her new role, Schindler will work closely with media outlets on promoting SBA programs and services throughout 14 Northern California counties.

"We are very fortunate to have Ms. Schindler join our team,” said San Francisco District Director Mark Quinn. “Her strategic experience, her outstanding professional reputation, and her leadership will be vital to our district office as we support small business in northern California."

In addition to her role as PIO, Schindler is a Lender Relations Specialist. She is a representative of the District Office in matters relating to lender relations activities. She is a point of contact for the SBA’s loan programs and the operational procedures of financial institutions. Her expertise is put to work assisting lenders, within the District, with strength and weakness analysis as it pertains to SBA marketing, loan processing, and/or liquidation guidance.

Before SBA, Schindler volunteered with the Peace Corps Volunteer as a Small Enterprise Development Advisor to a community-run bank in rural Mali, until she was evacuated for security reasons.  She also has experience working in marketing and communications for Schwab Charitable Fund, the nation’s second largest donor-advised fund.

Schindler is originally from Orinda, California.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Columbia University in New York City and a master’s degree in international relations from Leiden University in the Netherlands.  Schindler has worked in the San Francisco District office since November 2012.

The San Francisco SBA District Office covers Alameda, Contra Costa, Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake, Marin, Mendocino, Napa, San Francisco San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano, and Sonoma Counties. In Fiscal Year 2012, the District guaranteed over 1,500 small business loans valued at $807 million.  125 banks, credit unions and community lenders participated in this program. Annually, the San Francisco District Office cohosts over 1,000 training events for over 50,000 Bay Area small businesses or prospective businesses with SBA resource partners.
