SBA Administrator Linda McMahon’s Ignite Tour Comes to New Orleans, Spotlighting Small Biz Incubators

NEW ORLEANS - Linda McMahon, head of the U.S. Small Business Administration and the voice of small businesses on President Trump’s Cabinet, will visit New Orleans on Tuesday, May 22 as part of her nationwide SBA Ignite Tour.

Administrator McMahon will tour the Idea Village to learn more about how this organization is fostering change and innovation in the area by mentoring entrepreneurs. In the afternoon, McMahon will also visit Roux Carre, a culinary incubator, whose core mission is to help women and minority-owned businesses enter the restaurant market.

Small businesses are the engine of Louisiana’s economy with 437,437 small businesses that make up 99.5% of all businesses in the state.  These firms employ 917,466 people which are about 53.2% of Louisiana’s workforce.  In Fiscal 2017, SBA approved 388 loans to Louisiana entrepreneurs, valued at more than $194 million.  The loans created 2,198 jobs and retained 2,040 jobs in the state.  Already in Fiscal 2018, Louisiana small businesses have been approved for 247 loans for nearly $145 million, which represents an increase of 24% in loan numbers and 100% increase in dollars over last year at this time.
