MIAMI - The U.S. Small Business Administration signed a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) with the Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County Feb. 26, during its Chambers Quarterly Business Exchange Luncheon at Okeechobee’s Indian River State College, Dixon Hendry Campus.

The purpose of this SAM agreement is to develop and foster mutual understanding and a renewed working relationship between SBA and the Chamber of Commerce Okeechobee County to foster small business development and expansion.

"SBA exists to provide counseling, small business capital and government contracting opportunities," said South Florida District Director Francisco "Pancho" Marrero. "We look forward to working with the Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County in strengthening the community's small businesses and assisting with job creation."

“We are delighted to partner our Chamber’s focus on small business with that of the SBA,” said Terry Burroughs, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Okeechobee County.  “Our county’s chamber provides services to over 228 members and is integral part of the county’s small business owners community.  This partnership will enhance what we are able to offer them.”

SBA South Florida District and its resource partners provide capital, counseling services and contracting opportunities to entrepreneurs and small business owners to start and expand small businesses that create new jobs.  In fiscal year 2013 that ended Sept. 30, SBA has approved three loans in Okeechobee County totaling $769,000.
