SBA asks Illinoisans to Nominate Exceptional Small Business Owners, Resource Partners, and Advocate-Champions for National Small Business Week.

CHICAGO, IL – The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Illinois District Office is asking Illinoisans to highlight outstanding small businesses through nominations for National Small Business Week 2014. The annual awards celebrate exceptional small business performance in various arenas. Honors include the Illinois Small Business Person of the Year and the Illinois Exporter of the Year, among other titles.

Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities and to the nation’s economy. National award winners from all districts will be invited to Washington, D.C. to celebrate National Small Business Week.

National Award categories include: The Small Business Person of the Year, Small Business Exporter of the Year, 8(a) Graduate of the Year, Small Business Development Center Excellence and Innovation of the Year, and Women’s Business Center of Excellence of the Year. These awards recognize the contribution small business owners and resource partners who have driven economic growth and job creation in their communities through hard work, innovation, and resilience.

The Illinois District will also recognize the following statewide awards:
Minority Small Business Champion
Veterans Small Business Champion
Women Business Champion
SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year
Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Small Business
Entrepreneurial Success.

Nominations may be submitted by any individual or by organizations such as professional and trade associations, business organizations, chambers of commerce, banks, or a small business’ employees.

All nominations must be submitted online (http://nationalsmallbusinessweek.sba.gov, postmarked or hand delivered to the SBA no later than the end of the day, Friday, Jan. 17, 2014.
