SBA Baltimore District Office Seeks Applicants for Emerging 200 (e200) Initiative

Baltimore, Md. - The SBA Baltimore District Office is now interviewing candidates for participation in its 2011 Emerging 200 Initiative (e200): Street Wise Steps to Small Business GrowthTM.

The e200 Initiative is an intensive executive – level training initiative for high potential small business owners in Baltimore City and Baltimore County. The Street Wise Steps to Small Business GrowthTM e200 curriculum will give small business owners an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience through the combination of an academically developed curriculum, practical tips based on “real life” business experience, and advice from business leaders that can be readily applied. It will focus on topics such as organization management, growth strategies, finances, market development, and strategic planning.

Since its inception in 2008, e200 has identified business owners across the country that show a high potential for growth in underserved markets – and provided them with the training, networking, resources and motivation required to expand operations and create jobs.

To date, more than half of the businesses that participated in e200 have seen an increase in revenue, and nearly two-thirds have created new jobs. Entrepreneurs who have completed the training have secured over $9 million in new financing for their businesses.

The first e200 class of 2011 will start in mid April (the exact dates will be determined later). Class typically meets once every two weeks, and is held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The total time commitment is approximately 100 hours spread over 6 months.

Participation in e 200 is free to qualifying business. Criteria for participation include having been in business for a minimum of three years, $400,000 or more in gross revenues, and a business location within Baltimore City or Baltimore County. Participation will be limited to only 15 businesses in Baltimore and approximately 330 businesses nationwide. The e 200 Expression of Interest Form must be received at SBA by April 5, 2011.
