SBA Honors Bald Eagle Erectors as Small Business Subcontractor of the Year 2015

Forest Lake, Minn. – Bald Eagle Erectors, Inc. of Forest Lake, MN has been named the SBA Region V (Midwest) Subcontractor of the Year for 2015 by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Bald Eagle Erectors was nominated for this award by Mark Ruffino, Vice President and General Manager, Federal Contracting Group of M.A. Mortensen Company of Minneapolis Minnesota.

The Subcontractor award recognizes small businesses that have provided the government and industry with outstanding goods and services.  Only large federal prime contractors may nominate a firm for the Small Business Subcontractor of the Year Award.  

Bald Eagle was nominated for this award because they have distinguished themselves as an exceptional subcontracting partner for Mortenson Company. They are also committed to providing responsive and high quality service and are deserving of special recognition. Bald Eagle’s increased growth and dedication to the community as a whole makes them a valuable asset to the Twin Cities business community.

After serving in the Marine Corps from 1977 to 1980, Bice joined the Iron Workers Union and is still a member. In 1994, he started Bald Eagle Erectors and has been doing business ever since. Bald Eagle Erectors works on construction projects which consists of tying rebar, doing post-tension work, steel I-beams, structural steel framing, stairways, mezzanines and even ornamental stairways. Bald Eagle has worked on such prominent projects as the Minneapolis Central Library, the Guthrie on the River, the 494 Bridge project, the University of Minnesota Bioscience Project and, most recently, the State Capital Office Building and the People’s Multi-Purpose Stadium AKA the Vikings Stadium.

Recently, Bice’s company has been subcontracted to do work on projects such as the Wayzata, MN Lift Station, the Minnesota state entrance sign at the new Stillwater Bridge, numerous wastewater treatment plants, the Metropolitan Council’s Pigs Eye Plant project and the Stillwater National Guard Training Center.

The company holds certifications for the SBA 8a Program which helps minority-owned and economically disadvantaged companies contract with the government.  Bald Eagle is a Minority- and Veteran-Owned Small Business, as well as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise in Minnesota.  They also hold other state and city certifications as a minority and disadvantaged business. Bald Eagle is also a member of the Minnesota American Indian Chamber of Commerce.

Bice also serves on multiple trade councils and volunteers his time to mentor children at the Risen Christ School in South Minneapolis for their “Imagine the Possibilities” program.

Bice will be honored at the Minnesota Small Business Week Awards program on May 7, 2015, at the Minneapolis Marriott Northwest.
