South Florida Office Announces District Small Business Week 2013 Winners


MIAMI – U.S. Small Business Administration South Florida District Director Francisco “Pancho” Marrero is pleased to announce the winners of SBA’s 2013 South Florida District Small Business Week Awards.


“I was very happy to see the number of south Florida businesses who submitted nominations for our annual awards program,” said Marrero.  “Our panel of judges from local business advocates, SCORE Miami resource partners, and SBA lenders did a fantastic job reviewing each nomination.  Their professional insight in selecting this year’s winners is greatly appreciated.” 


The 2013 SBA South Florida District Small Business Person of the Year is Steve Miller.  Miller is President of EPreward located in Boynton Beach. The Company specializes in precious metals recovery services for cardiology departments.


John Diaz has been named the Minority Owned Small Business Person of the Year.  Diaz is President of Impact Industrial Supplies located in Tampa.  The company specializes in a full range of supplies for industrial businesses. 


Lisa Hickey has been named the Woman Owned Small Business Person of the Year. Hickey was recently the President of Douglass Screen Printers in Lakeland.  The company specializes in a full range of digital and screen printing products. 


Rick Caldwell has been named the Veteran Owned Small Business Person of the Year.  Caldwell is the owner of Rcultures in Miramar.  His business provides a wide range of corporate training in diversity and team building. 


Tammy Youst has been named the Financial Services Advocate of the Year.  Youst is the Vice President/SBA Manager for Achieva Credit Union in Largo. 


Daniel Scott has been named the Small Business Advocate of the Year.  Scott is the Associate Director, Sustainable Entrepreneurship & Innovation Alliance at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg College of Business. 


Cindy Kent was named Small Business Media Advocate of the Year.   Kent is a business reporter for the Sun Sentinel newspaper. 


State winners for these categories are expected to be announced on April 15, 2013.  SBA’s National Small Business Week will be celebrated June 17–21, 2013.  National winners will be announced at that time.
