JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is seeking nominations for the 2015 North Florida Small Business Person of the Year and several other small business awards.

“I encourage small businesses in North Florida that have created jobs, increased sales, or contributed to their community to apply for these awards. The SBA wants to recognize the hard-work and dedication of small business owners,” stated Wilfredo J. Gonzalez, SBA District Director.

In recognition of the small business community’s contribution to the American economy and society, the President of the United States designates one week each year as National Small Business Week. The national celebration will take place in May of 2015 in Washington, DC. Leading up to National Small Business Week 2015, the U.S. Small Business Administration, often in conjunction with public- and private-sector small business supporters, will host special events at the local and state levels to honor and present awards to local entrepreneurs and those who support and advocate for small businesses.

The following categories will be open for submissions and will be judged at the District and State levels:

Small Business Person of the Year

Small Business Exporter of the Year

Veteran Business Owner of the Year

Minority Business Owner of the Year

Woman Business Owner of the Year

Small Business Advocate

Financial Services Advocate

Small Business Media Advocate

Statewide winners of the Small Business Person of the Year and the Small Business Exporter of the Year awards will also be eligible to compete for their respective titles nationally. National award winners will be announced during National Small Business Week in May of 2015.

For a full description of these awards and instructions on how to apply, please visit the North Florida District Website. All nominations are due by January 5, 2015.

Additional National categories include: Phoenix Awards (for disaster recovery), Federal Procurement Awards, Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) Awards, and SBA Resource Partners Awards.
