MINNEAPOLIS – Nancy J. Libersky, the first female Minnesota District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration, is retiring after 30 years of service.  Her last day in the office is December 20, 2019.

District Director since 2010, Libersky has championed SBA’s programs to help small business by facilitating commercial bank loans, advocating for federal government contracting opportunities and working with local communities in all 87 Minnesota counties on entrepreneurial development and business growth.

Born and raised in Pueblo, Colorado, Libersky helped people become business owners prior to her time with the SBA, serving as the Executive Director of the Southern Colorado Economic Development CDC.

Later, hired by the SBA Regional Office in Denver, Colorado, she worked as a Surety Bond Manager and became the Regional Women’s Advocate traveling to mentor women business owners throughout a six state region on growth strategies, access to capital, and fulfilling their dreams – at a time when doing so was unconventional and challenging.

In 1994, Libersky was promoted to SBA Regional Manager of International Programs in Minnesota and worked with hundreds of small businesses to export their products and services. For several years she was the “top performer” for export capital loans and led national efforts coordinating SBA meetings across regions.

Libersky became the SBA Minnesota District Office Director in 2010. There she led with a philosophy of teamwork and mentoring, encouraging all staff to become champions of small businesses growth in their own right. Under her leadership, the Minnesota Office grew to consistently rank in the top ten out of 68 district offices nationwide in SBA loan guarantees.

In addition to her service at SBA, Libersky has served as an adjunct instructor at Saint Paul College teaching classes such as International Culture, International Marketing, Introduction to International Trade, International Communications and International Finance. She has served on the Minnesota District Export Council, appointed by the Secretary of Commerce, and was an active member of several international organizations.

Nancy Libersky's leadership will be missed at the SBA, but is wished decades of joy in her next chapter.
