WASHINGTON, DC –On November 29th, U.S. Small Business Administrator (SBA) Maria Contreras-Sweet will highlight local merchants on Small Business Saturday-#ShopSmall with U.S. Senator Mark Warner and U.S. Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton. The day is dedicated to supporting small businesses that anchor our local communities and strengthen our economy. This year, the SBA created a #DineSmall movement to help expand Small Business Saturday into the evening to support entrepreneurs in the food and beverage industry.

Last year, nearly half of all consumers spent an estimated $5.7 billion dollars at small business merchants across the nation. Since the recession, small businesses have created two out of three new private sector jobs. These firms are largely responsible for America’s 10.3 million new jobs that have led to 56 straight months of job growth.  The SBA has partnered with American Express and the National Restaurant Association to promote these efforts.
