Two Odessa businesses win SBA honors


LUBBOCK, TX.  -  The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is proud to announce two Odessa businesses as recipients of Small Business Week awards. 

Tamara Bavousett of Compass Pediatrics, PLLC is the 2013 Small Business Person of the Year for the Odessa area. Dr. Bavousett’s pediatric practice has grown exponentially and has exceeded her business plan projections. In 2012, Compass Pediatrics, PLLC continued its strong and steady growth seeing over 8300 patients. 

Lawana Smith of L’Oven Expressions Bakery is the 2013 Women in Business Champion of the Year award for the Odessa area.  Ms. Smith increased her yearly sales by 30% and her client base grew significantly in 2012.

Both of these individuals/companies were nominated by Enrique Romero and Emily Weinberg of the UTPB Small Business Development Center and they are proud to nominate and endorse these outstanding businesses.   

“We are proud of Dr. Bavousett and Ms. Smith for their outstanding contribution to the Odessa small business community,” said West Texas District Director, Calvin Davis. “These awards are a tribute to their dedication and hard work.  We are excited to have this opportunity to recognize them.”

An event will be held to honor these businesses at the Center for Energy & Diversification Building (C.E.E.D. building) located at 1400 North FM 1788, Midland, Texas on June 25th 2013 from 5:30 – 7:00 P.M.  All local and surrounding media are invited and encouraged to provide coverage of this award presentation.
