PHILADELPHIA – The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Philadelphia District Office is seeking nominations for its local Small Business Awards, honoring Eastern Pennsylvania small businesses and business owners. In addition to the previously announced National Small Business Week Awards categories, locally SBA’s Philadelphia District Office will recognize award winners in the following categories:

• Entrepreneurial Success

• Family-Owned Business of the Year

• Minority-Owned Small Business Person of the Year

• Veteran-Owned Small Business Person of the Year

• Woman-Owned Small Business Person of the Year

• Young Entrepreneur of the Year

"Both the local and national recognition of award winners through this awards program celebrates the millions of small businesses in America that employ more than half the country’s private work force and generate so many American innovations," said Dave Dickson, SBA Philadelphia District Director.

Nominations for the six eastern Pennsylvania awards must be submitted to the SBA Philadelphia District Office no later than February 28, 2014. Award nominations may be submitted directly to SBA’s Philadelphia District Office at 1150 1st Ave., King of Prussia, PA 19460. To obtain a 2014 SBA Local Awards nomination package detailing selection criteria and containing step-by-step nomination instructions, contact SBA, Attn. Award winners from eastern Pennsylvania and their nominators are recognized at a high-profile awards ceremony and networking event, drawing some of the area’s top lenders, economic development organizations and small business people, as well as elected officials and members of the press. Winners in the nationally-recognized categories are recognized in a national award ceremony held in Washington, D.C.

The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Philadelphia District Award winners will be recognized at the 2014 Small Business Award Winners at the annual "SBA Day at the Ballpark" event on June 12. The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with a luncheon at "Chickie’s & Pete’s" restaurant at 1526 Packer Ave. followed by a 1:05 p.m. Phillies game at nearby Citizens Bank Park. The event is open to the media.

Eastern Pennsylvania’s Small Business Awards is a local observance of the Presidentially-designated National Small Business Week. National Small Business Week, celebrated in Washington, D.C. annually in recognition of the small business community’s contribution to the American economy, honors outstanding small business owners from around the country. It will culminate with the announcement of the National Small Business Person of the Year.
