SAN FRANCISCO - ChallengeHER was launched in early 2013 to promote the Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB) Federal Contract Program, to bring more women-owned firms into the federal government’s supply chain, and to provide an avenue for government agencies to meet qualified women-owned contractors.  Since the program began, ChallengeHER has reached more than 3,000 women business owners at events across the country.

U.S. Congresswoman Jackie Speier will join the June 13th ChallengeHER event to help San Francisco-area women business owners learn how to take part in the WOSB Federal Contract Program.

“Even though women own nearly 30% of all American businesses and are a fast-growing force in the private sector, they are underrepresented in federal contracting and receive less than 5% of the contracts available from federal agencies,” Speier said.

"Women owned firms are the fastest growing segment of the small business community, but still secure only a small share of the Federal contracts.  ChallengeHER is about teaching women business owners how to unlock the doors to the federal procurement arena and position themselves to win federal contracts,” said John Shoraka, U.S. Small Business Administration Associate Administrator of Government Contracting and Business Development.
