Brunswick – On National Small Business Development Center Day, Diane Sturgeon, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Maine Deputy District Director, joined Wilcox Wellness & Fitness’ Brunswick location owner Allison Hopkins as well as the Maine Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in honor of National SBDC Day, and to celebrate the recent opening of the business. The business utilized the business advising services of Maine SBDC and the original Bangor location of Wilcox Wellness & Fitness participated in the Bangor class of SBA’s Emerging Leaders.

“Businesses like Wilcox Wellness & Fitness are a fantastic example of the power of working with our SBA Resource Partners like the Small Business Development Center.  Both Paige and Mike Wilcox, the founders of this franchise, and Allison were able to capitalize on the assistance received through work with SBDC business advisors to open and grow successful small businesses,” said Diane Sturgeon, SBA’s Maine Deputy District Director.

“I am incredibly grateful for the resources provided by the SBA and the Maine SBDC at CEI in the startup of my business. My interest in opening a Brunswick location of Wilcox Wellness & Fitness was driven by my desire to do something that would make a positive impact in my local community. I was impressed by what the Wilcox’s had been able to do in Bangor, and saw an opportunity in Brunswick, but I needed to be sure that I had a sound business plan. My business advisor assisted me in reviewing my plan, reviewing my cash flow projections, and asking tough questions to ensure that I had considered all aspects of starting this business. The support that I received from my business advisor at the Maine SBDC at CEI provided me with the confidence to move forward with starting my business. Entrepreneurs are fortunate to have resources like these available to us,” said Allison Hopkins.

“We congratulate Allison as she takes the brave leap into entrepreneurship and joins the ranks of small business owners in Maine. For over 40 years, the Maine SBDC has helped aspiring entrepreneurs like Allison and the Wilcox’s to start and grow their businesses. We are proud of our dedicated business advisors who work hard to help our clients achieve their goals and dreams,” commented Mark Delisle, Maine SBDC State Director.
