In business for over twenty years now serving laboratory clients needs helping them to discover what they need and providing products and some times installation assistance. Very small business in a niche market and woman owned and operated. Most of my competitors are mega or internationals, some are office furniture or school furniture suppliers.
While I may lose sales to them because it appears they have better prices, eventually many come back as dissatisfied. I like to say 'quality is priceless' and knowledge is power and doing the best you can and one will at least survive even when swimming with the real sharks (don't splash to much though) humor helps. Nothing worth while is easy and running a business is one of the hardest most rewarding things you can do and just like raising kids there really is no handbook or workbook there is just guiding principles. I do not earn as much as even some of my competitors sales reps, but I am satisfied and what one needs is all that is really important and I so enjoy what I do. Is not that success - and the economic situation has been very hard from time to time, but I am still here when many other businesses are now. I have the Kenny Roger's song to thank for that. You have to know when to fold'em, know when to hold'em, know when to walk away and know when to run. (now who you want as a client, set the runs of engagement.) I am here to understand what businesses of tomorrow will be looking for so I am still able to support some of those needs. I have never stopped being educated, no degree is as important as the ability to learn. So I can still be in the game so to speak.
